Wearstlerworld,
I’ve just come back to Los Angeles from a little European tour – Amsterdam, London, Milan, and Paris. I’ve got ongoing projects in all of those cities – and in the latter two I managed to sync up with Fashion Week and caught some runway shows. (I wrote about the ways fashion influences my design work a couple of weeks ago.)
It’s really a moment of seismic change in the fashion industry, so the energy has been incredible – there was so much reordering in the major fashion houses that the clothes spoke to fresh creative visions more than ever. (I saw Jonathan Anderson’s first show for Dior; Louise Trotter’s debut at Bottega Veneta; and Mathieu Blazy at Chanel – and that’s just a slice of the turn-over. There was Loewe, Gaultier, Balenciaga, Gucci… all in new hands.)
So, I wanted to reflect on fresh eyes and new teams, and what that means – at least for me – in revitalizing a creative process. And, while I’m at it: a tease for Side Hustle, a new platform for artists that I’m launching next week (I am so excited the time has come!); some tips on sourcing design pieces, through some finds at the Paris flea; and a little rumination on the importance of pressure, and how to manage it.
